What is it?

The map of medicine is a list of national guidelines which have been developed to guide doctors and nurses in their decision making with all sorts of problems. 
A guideline is simply a series of steps which the health care professional goes through when making a diagnosis and managing a condition. The aim is that if everyone goes through the same steps we should produce more consistant care. 
The guidelines have all been developed using up to date evidence and they are changed when new things are discovered. The way we treat things today is often very different to the ways which we treated things a few years ago.

We have spent the last few months developing various tools to help our patients get more information about certain conditions.  One of the major projects which we have undertaken is to build a website relating to Diabetes and Prediabetes.   The members of the diabetes team including Dr Ward, Michele Jennings, Ruth Hollingworth and Adrienne Large have contributed to building the site.

The aim is to give people who have been diagnosed with this condition a place to start to learn all about Diabetes.
